At first glance, each card in The Poly Card Deck reveals a rich set of information. Every element has been carefully designed with purpose.

Each card combines multiple independent symbol layers. Allowing to be used in different ways across a wide range of games and mechanics. Numbers, colors, icons, and patterns, allowing the same card to adapt to different rules, playstyles, and game systems.

In the following sections, you will discover how each element works, what it represents, and how it can be used. Whether you are playing classic games, exploring variations, or creating entirely new ones.

Playing cards are one of the most universal game systems in the world. Used across cultures, generations, and playstyles for centuries. The Poly Card Deck builds on this foundation and expands it into a more flexible, multi-layered system designed for modern board gaming.

The Poly Card Deck includes two complete 60-card sets. One based on a classic standard design, one with a creative reinterpretation. Each set contains 52 playing cards, 2 jokers, and 6 blank cards ready for your own symbols, rules, or custom mechanics. This dual structure preserves the familiarity of suits and values while transforming them into a versatile framework for both classic games and entirely new mechanics.

DICE

Rolling dice is a core part of many games. And while nothing quite replaces the tactile fun of tossing a handful of dice, it comes with its own challenges. Dice take up space, roll off the table, or disappear under furniture.

The Poly Card Deck offers a compact and reliable alternative. Card-based dice simulation gives you consistency, portability, and control without sacrificing randomness. Covering W2 (Coin Flip), D3, D4, D6, D8, D10, D12, and D20, the deck handles the most common dice needs in one place. Eight dice types, including a coin flip mechanic, more than any other universal card deck.

For designers, card-based randomness opens up additional options: controlled probability systems, repeatable outcomes, and custom distributions that go beyond standard dice mechanics.

EURO GAME RESOURCES

Euro-style resource management is at the heart of countless modern board games. The Poly Card Deck integrates the most essential resource types directly onto every card, making it the ideal companion for Eurogame fans on the go.

Each card features a resource icon in a dedicated area, allowing you to recreate and adapt your favorite resource management mechanics in a compact, travel-friendly format. No separate tokens, no extra components, everything is already on the card.

Every resource icon also carries an inherent numerical value, adding an additional layer of depth and opening up new ways to integrate resources into your game mechanics.

DIRECTION, COLORS & NUMBERS

Directional systems and color coding are two of the most fundamental tools in game design. From movement and navigation to player roles and game effects, they create structure and clarity within complex systems.

The Poly Card Deck integrates both into a single unified layer. Eight cardinal and diagonal directions provide spatial logic for board games and movement mechanics, while a full color spectrum adds intuitive categorization and variety. Both systems can be used together for multi-layered mechanics, or independently when a game only requires one of them.

Instead of manually assigning roles, colors, or positions, players can simply draw cards to determine them randomly. This removes bias, speeds up setup, and keeps gameplay dynamic and fair.

For game masters and designers, these systems become powerful tools for simulation. From environmental changes and enemy movement to randomized event direction and spatial behavior. In solo game design, directional and color logic can also be used to control automated opponents, creating structured but unpredictable behavior.

NUMBERS

Eurogames run on numbers. Whether it's resource values, victory points, or action costs, almost every game mechanic can be broken down into numerical systems. The Poly Card Deck is built with this in mind, offering a number range from 1 to 120, specifically designed for the demands of modern board games.

Why such a wide range? Because depth requires room. A narrow number spectrum forces designers to compromise. A broad spectrum allows for fine-tuned probability distributions, scalable difficulty levels, and complex progression systems, all without needing additional components.

The 42 included playing pieces make the deck even more versatile: counting markers, resource tokens, playing pieces, everything already included.

DOMINOES - DOUBLE 6, 9 & 12

Combining the simplicity of cards with spatial placement, domino-style mechanics have been a timeless form of gameplay for centuries. Built on pattern recognition, matching systems, and strategic positioning, they create depth from very simple rules.

The Poly Card Deck integrates domino patterns based on 6, 9, and 12 sets directly onto every card, allowing you to recreate classic domino games or explore expanded variations with larger ranges and more complex combinations.

Cards can be placed, matched, and connected to form chains and patterns depending on the rules you choose. From traditional setups to entirely new interpretations.

For designers, this opens up additional options: spatial puzzles, progression systems with increasing complexity, or combined domino sets for unique mechanics.

ACTION ICONS

Communication is one of the most powerful mechanics in games and also one of the most entertaining. The Poly Card Deck includes 240 different words, creating a rich foundation for creative interaction and social gameplay.

Each card features an action icon that defines how the word must be communicated to other players:

Drawing: visually represent the concept
Acting: use gestures or pantomime to convey meaning
Describing: explain it using words, without saying the actual term

The challenge lies in how clearly you can communicate the idea while staying within the chosen method. Interpretation, creativity, and clarity all become essential parts of the experience.

For designers, this system opens up strong social and party game potential: deduction-based mechanics, team challenges, or hybrid systems that combine communication, strategy, and interpretation.

GRAPHIC SYMBOLS

The Poly Card Deck includes 60 unique graphic symbols, each appearing twice within the deck. At its core, this supports classic memory gameplay where players find and pair identical symbols.

The symbols are organized into two sets: cards 01 to 60 form one complete set, and cards 61 to 120 form a second set. This structure lets you decide the scale of your game, from a smaller, quicker experience with 30 pairs to a larger version with 60 pairs for more complexity and players.

Beyond memory games, these symbols can be adapted in many other ways: deduction games, pattern challenges, set collection mechanics, or custom systems where symbols trigger effects, interactions, or player actions.

Depending on the rules you create, the same symbols can represent matches, triggers, or strategic elements, making them a flexible building block for many different game designs.

LETTERS

Letters are everywhere you look. In fact, this entire Kickstarter page is built on them. The Poly Card Deck includes the full 26-letter alphabet, represented across the deck with varying frequency based on how commonly each letter appears in language.

At its core, this enables classic word-based gameplay such as Categories, where letters determine the starting point for words, answers, and associations. Fast, accessible, and highly replayable for all ages.

Beyond the classic use case, the letter system supports spelling challenges, word-building games, category races, deduction mechanics, or custom storytelling systems where letters define constraints or narrative structure.

Depending on the rules you design, letters can serve as starting conditions, limitations, or building blocks for language-based gameplay, turning simple characters into powerful game drivers.

For designers, this system works well for fast party games, competitive word challenges, or experimental mechanics that combine language, speed, and creativity.

POINTS

Victory points: one of the most satisfying concepts in tabletop gaming. Few things feel better than steadily accumulating points and watching your progress grow as the game unfolds.

The Poly Card Deck includes a dedicated point system usable across a wide variety of games, from competitive scoring to cooperative objectives and progression-based mechanics. Points can represent success, efficiency, achievement, or any custom condition defined by your game.

In traditional games, victory points are the final measure of success. Here they can be adapted, reinterpreted, or reimagined entirely depending on the system you create.

If only real life worked the same way. Maybe we'd all remember to take out the recycling if it earned us a few VP along the way.

For designers, points become a universal balancing tool: track progress, reward actions, define win conditions, or build evolving scoring systems that scale with complexity and player decisions.

WORDS

The Poly Card Deck includes 240 different words and concepts printed across the cards, creating a strong foundation for a wide range of games and mechanics.

These words support classic word games, association challenges, quiz-style formats, and creative explanation games. They also work perfectly for category-based games like Categories, where players generate answers based on a given letter or theme.

Beyond traditional formats, the 220 words can inspire entirely new game ideas, encouraging creativity, improvisation, and unique rule systems. Each word becomes a flexible starting point for gameplay, interpretation, and interaction.

...and finally the BLANK AREAS

On every card you will find several designated blank areas, intentionally left open for you to expand, adapt, and personalize your deck.

Add your own symbols, rules, or mechanics directly onto the cards using small round or elongated stickers, available in any stationery store. Cover existing elements, replace them with your own ideas, or use the blank spaces to add custom labels, icons, or notes. No additional tools required.

This makes the Poly Card Deck a truly customizable system that grows with your ideas and your group.

THE BACK OF THE CARDS
A board in Your Hands

Designing the back of the Poly Card Deck was one of the biggest challenges of this project: combining multiple classic board game layouts into a single, minimalistic design.

Bringing together elements inspired by chess, backgammon, checkers, and Ludo into one unified system required careful balance. The result is a back side unlike anything else in the universal card deck space.

At first glance, the design appears simple, almost abstract. But every element has a purpose:

Two mirrored square patterns create a flexible grid forming a chessboard-style layout for games like Chess, Checkers, Connect Four, Battleship, and Tic Tac Toe.
Two mirrored triangular patterns form the foundation of a backgammon board, opening up an additional layer of gameplay.
Subtle edge markings frame the layout, allowing you to recreate paths and structures for games like Ludo and beyond.

Let's have a look at some of the boards you can create:

... and many more!

All of this is integrated into a clean, minimal design. The cards remain elegant while unlocking multiple classic game boards at once.

This is where your creativity takes over. What games will you create with it? What new boards and rules will emerge from these patterns?

The Poly Card Deck gives you the tools. You decide what to build.

THE GAME PIECES
Where the deck becomes a full game system

Only a few weeks ago, I asked myself a key question: should the Poly Card Deck include game pieces?

The original idea was to keep everything as simple and minimal as possible. But adding pieces dramatically expands what the system can do. In the end, the decision was clear.

Designing the pieces came with its own challenge: how do you keep the number of components as low as possible while still supporting as many different games as possible?

The result is a carefully balanced system of 42 game pieces:

21 white and 21 black pieces
36 (18/18) of them featuring classic chess piece symbols

With this setup, you have everything you need to play Chess, Checkers, Backgammon, Connect Four, Battleship, Ludo, and many more.

And just like the cards themselves, the pieces are more than components for existing games. They are a tool for game designers: test mechanics, prototype ideas, and build entirely new systems from scratch.
