Note: If you reserved Siberian Manhunt for 1€ during the pre-campaign, you will automatically receive a copy of Ejection Zone. In this case, please do not add Ejection Zone to your pledge as this will be done automatically in the pledge manager.

We love our friendly local game shops (FLGS) and hope to see Siberian Manhunt distributed to retail stores one day. But in the meantime, shops that are interested in backing Siberian Manhunt can receive 5 copies of the standard edition plus 5 copies of the deluxe edition for only €260 (a 50% discount on the Kickstarter price, and a whopping 60% discount on the MSRP!). We will reach out to you after the campaign ends to sort out your verification, adjust your order quantities, etc. (Note: if you choose to order less than the 10 copies, your discount will be 30% off the Kickstarter price).

Wait, why no minis?

First, by not including minis, we were able to keep the price of the game significantly lower. Second, the game doesn't need them. Playtesters were routinely asked whether the game would benefit from miniatures, and 90% of the time the answer was no. Minis can be an amazing addition to the right game, but Siberian Manhunt, set in the 1960s, has a retro feel and using classic wooden pawns helps convey the feeling that the Soviet player is pushing faceless pieces around on an old war map.

Siberian Manhunt is a highly asymmetrical 2-player hidden movement game—almost two games in one! The game takes place in the Baikal region of Siberia in 1962, during the height of the Cold War. One player takes the role of the Fugitive who is trying to escape across the border into China, or to make it to the end of the hidden movement track (i.e., the Government has lost the trail and gives up the chase). Meanwhile, the Soviet Government's goal is to capture or kill the Fugitive. Both players spend energy to perform a variety of actions, but otherwise the roles are very different.

The following 10 minute video offers a comprehensive overview of the rules:

Note: At the time of launch, the US is applying 10% tariffs to the manufactured value of products made in China (where our manufacturer, LongPack Games, is located). Depending on how many units of Siberian Manhunt are ultimately produced, American backers should expect to pay a couple of extra dollars in the pledge manager.

No Stretch Goals

There are no stretch goals in this campaign. While we understand that impacts the excitement generated by a Kickstarter campaign, it can also influence the design and/or quality of the final product if all goals are not unlocked. Instead, for Siberian Manhunt we chose to provide a complete, uncompromised gameplay experience from the very beginning and we’ve structured the campaign funding goals to allow us to achieve this. For those interested in a more premium product, all component upgrades are available from day 1 in the Deluxe Edition.

Why Back Siberian Manhunt?

Simply put, Siberian Manhunt won’t get published without the support of our backers, and to help incentivize you, we've kept the price as low as possible (~30% off the MSRP). In addition, we have plans for some amazing follow-up games. A 3-4 player expansion for Siberian Manhunt is currently in development. A game about the Lions of Tsavo is waiting in the wings. If this first campaign is a success, Dangerous Games will continue to develop exciting games with realistic themes and high stakes.

File Reviews and, yup, Tariffs

2025-04-08 14:21:42

Hey everyone!

We've been pretty busy since the Kickstarter campaign ended, so I just wanted to take a moment to fill you all in on our progress!

Pledge Manager Selection

We did a pretty comprehensive market survey and found that Hive best suits our purposes. Not only do they have a great platform that is incredibly customizable for handling different pledge types, languages, add-ons, etc., but they also help with consolidated shipping from the factory to the fulifillment centers. Bonus! However, I should warn you that their pledge manager survey system has some quirks...More on that when the pledge manager launches. Hive is now fully set up and ready to launch.

IMPORTANT: If you backed the game using the Kickstarter mobile app on an Apple phone, then you may have used an Apple ID instead of your actual email. Unfortunately we can’t contact you through your Apple ID, so you will need to change your email here: https://www.hiveinteractive.net/pledgemanager . We currently have 6 backers with AppleIDs instead of emails, so if you're an Apple user, please double check that you used a real email address.

Proofreading

We've had both our German and French editions thoroughly proofread. Since the original translations were done by professional translators, this was mainly a quality control exercise. We are now confident that both translations are solid. The English version was also proofread several more times by different editors. And while we can never be certain we've found all the errors, we're pretty sure we've caught most of them.

Next Steps

We are in the process of approving the digital E-proof from LongPack games. Once that's completed in the next day or two, they will manufacture one proof copy of each language edition. When those arrive, we will go over these with a fine-tooth comb and make any final adjustments to the manufacturing. We hope to kickoff mass manufacturing in May, with the goal of completion around the start of July. We expect the games to be 6-8 weeks on the boats, and then fulfillment can begin in September. Obviously a lot can go wrong with that aggressive timeline, and if it does, we'll keep you in the loop.

Tariffs and Pledge Manager Launch

We've been in close communication with Games Quest, who will be leading our non-EU fulfillment efforts, about the tariff situation in the US. Because everything is so choatic, we don't know what the tariffs will be on Chinese goods at the time of shipment. Currently they are 54%, but if the trade war escalates, we could see 100+% in the coming weeks. Therefore we're going hold off launching the pledge manager as long as possible so that we have the most up-to-date information. If we're lucky, maybe the tariffs will have dropped by then. Fingers crossed!

The current plan is to import directly from China to the US and pay whatever tariff-du-jour the US is charging when the shipment arrives. We will need to charge US backers at the pledge manager step to cover the latest tariffs. This carries the risk that the tariffs could change between the close of the pledge manager and the time of importation, but the benefit is that the tariffs are only based on the manufacturing price, not the KS price. (If we shipped "Duty Unpayed" and made the backers pay upon receipt of the game, then the tariff is based on the KS price, which could be a whole lot more).

None of this ideal, but as a small board game company, we need to roll with the punches and get Siberian Manhunt to your table one way or another. We'll stay in touch as we head into the final reviews of the physical games and mass manufacturing. There are exciting times ahead, and we want to take you along for the ride :-)

Happy gaming, everyone!

Jesse
