TEXT VERSION OF THIS PAGE
D6 System: Second Edition (abbreviated to D6 2e) is a relaunch of the classic West End Games D6 System! It's updated, modernized, and presented in a new full-color hardcover book.
It features a modern and modular refresh of the classic ruleset, and because its licensed directly from West End Games, Gallant Knight Games has been able to plumb the depths of historical D6 System content, helping to leverage the very best from this storied roleplaying game's lineage and bring it all together into a new cohesive rulebook!
There's more details on the rules and updates further down the page!
Why "2e"?
Wow, that's a good question. When we were talking with WEG regarding this project, for a long time, we struggled with the name. D6 System books often were just defined by "eras" or the systems they supported.
Finally, we realized that even though numerous iterations and previous publications had existed, few (or none, really) of them had consistently presented themselves as an "edition", but more as an evolution or iteration on previous releases.
Together, the teams felt that calling this corebook "2e" would mark a new era in the game's publishing line, and would help to codify and communicate clearly where we are aiming to take the game line in the future, while also using language that existed in the tabletop rpg spaces common vernacular.
What is D6 System 2e?
WEG D6 2e utilizes mechanics derived from the D6 System's long history, but with contemporary updates.
- Classic D6 System features like:
- Lots of D6s!
- Attribute + Skill forming a dice pool
- Rolls that are totaled against a Target Number (TN)
- The Wild Die
All still exist and play important roles (and rolls!) in WEG D6 2e. Updates and changes have been made to streamline the game, with some features such as;
- More Narrative Control
- Fail Forward mechanics
- Hero Points!
- Revisions to the Wild Die
- Streamlined Skill Lists
Our goal is to produce something that is intimately familiar, but fresh and exciting! WEG D6 2e has been in playtesting for years, and has logged hundreds of hours of play already. We're committed to doing this right.
What We're Making
Our goal is to produce a full-color hardcover 200-page book in a 7x10" size and the accompanying PDFs.
The core rulebook will have three covers you can choose between, featuring the initial three genre modules. While the contents are the same in each edition, you'll be ablet o showcase your preferred genre on the table.
The superhero cover is illustrated by Tan Ho Sim, the fantasy cover is illustrated by Ludvik Skp, and the science fiction cover is illustrated by Galen Pejeau.
Escalating Modularity
Throughout the D6 2e core rulebook, you will find that the book is structured in a series of escalating rules modules, each being used to introduce alternate rules or modifications to the baseline rules.
Additionally, throughout the book there are other sidebars and optional rules. These optional rules are designed to allow you to genre bend and modify the game to fit various themes, in a "plug-and-play" fashion. The additional and optional modules help you to fine-tune your campaign to fit the genre you've chosen to play in!
The modules are houses under various genres or sections of the book, but each module can be used with other genres and modules. That means, even if magic is housed under Fantasy, there's no reason you can't use it in superheroes or science fiction! If a module does not work with another module, we'll call it out.
Some of these modules are long (several pages or more) and some are short (only a page or two)! The goal is to communicate as efficiently as possible.
Like any tabletop roleplaying game, the more rules you add to the game, the more likely an unusual edge case is going to come up. Dice mechanics are no match for the sheer power of imagination and creatively players can espouse, and as such, the GM must be prepared to make a few rulings now and then to ease the gameplay where rough parts might cause friction.
YOU WILL FIND A PREVIEW LIST OF THE MODULES IN UPDATE 1 [LINK]
Shipping
We're a small company and we do our own fulfillment, so we can ensure it's done right. This does lead to high international costs and times, due to the customs and generally high price of shipping.
All of our digital rewards are being handled by our fulfillment partners at DriveThruRPG.
For print backers, shipping will be collected after the campaign, as Gallant Knight Games will be using their webstore for fulfillment (this is subject to change). You will receive an email that will allow you to check out with the appropriate pledge level as well as any add-ons. you will be responsible for paying your shipping at that time.
All packages ship from within the US (baring any changes in distribution, which will only lower costs).
Backers are responsible for any customs, fees, or other charges associated with their shipping. We cannot offer refunds if shipping is higher than you expected, so if you are concerned, you can email us at shipping@gallantknightgames.com with your address for a quote or wait to get the digital now.
However, we do always put our books in Print-On-Demand on DriveThruRPG, so don't hesitate to just get the PDF and you can get the book later!
West End Games
West End Games is an iconic company in the RPG industry creating classic roleplaying games that powered a wide range of universes and properties!
To that end, in partnership with Nocturnal Media & West End Games, Gallant Knight Games has been empowered to bring a brand new edition of the classic D6 System to the tabletop! Fully licensed, and the next step in the D6 family, WEG D6 2e updates the D6 system to contemporary advances in game design.
A lot of talented and well-regarded industry names have contributed to D6 System games over the generations. To name or reference them all would be a book in and of itself!
However, this iteration of the D6 System draws heavily form the following works:
- Ghostbusters, Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game, and other early D6 System games.
As well as later works such as:
- D6 Adventure, D6 Fantasy, D6 Science Fiction (Space) and more.
Inspiration and advice was also found in the work done by Jerry Greyson's Mythic D6 and the stellar work done by Khephera Publishing, as well as many others.

Hive Update #2
2026-09-11 05:22:29Hi folks!
Time for an update.
Sorry for the delay. Kickstarter rolled out a new login process (I'm sure you've seen) and for some reason the emails that contained our codes were not arriving, so we couldn't log into Kickstarter! It's since been resolved (obviously), but we're going to have to catch up on some comments and messages, so please bear with us.
During that week, we were unable to validate information from Kickstarter's side, so a handful of requests for help with Hive and the pledge manager are pending. We're working on wrapping those up over the weekend and next week to make sure everything is resolved.
If you are still waiting on me to respond to you (since GKG is just me!), rest assured, I'm just tackling the tickets from oldest to newest and I'll get to you as fast as I can. If you haven't heard from me by Friday next week, reach out to cs@gallantknightgames.com or through Hive (whichever you used) and I'll make sure to get you sorted asap.
Overall Hive has been a very positive experience, but we did have a few learning curve mistakes to adjust. They were minor impacts and most were resolved easily, so thanks for your patience.
Update to the ... Update Schedule.
As we move deeper into production, we'll be moving off our "on the 15th" update schedule and delivering updates as we have something to talk about!
Our updates won't slow down at the moment (in fact, they should increase as we roll out expansion PDFs) but as books are printing and then in transit to fulfillment, there's often not much to say (we're just stuck waiting patiently to hear they landed and cleared customs).
So if you don't hear from us on or near the 15th, it's ok! We're actively checking and working on the production and fulfillment steps, but the need to commicate as regularly will be come irregular (first more, then less), so it's the natural cycle.
Minor Fulfillment Update
I (Alan) went to visit our US distributor and fulfillment partner Studio2 in Knoxville (partially to drop of restock) but we went over the plan for D6, double checked how they intended to package it, and made sure we're going to be as good to go as we can be to avoid any hurdles.
Production Update
The 1.2 PDF came back from approvals with a few requested changes. Those are being made, but once done, we don't have to go through approvals again, so we'll be pushing that out to you.
Unless something happens, I imagine 1.2 will be next week to you next week. At that point, all the late backers will get it to. If it gets done earlier over the weekend (depending on the layout artists schedule), we'll push it out when we get it.
The printer is set. Now that the pledge manager has been out for a few weeks, a majority of the physical backers have selected the items they want. This means we can estimate the final numbers on the covers, and then add our expected print overage for retail, damages, replacements, and more.
We couldn't pull the "go print" trigger til 1.2 is done and we had the count estimates on covers (hence why the pledge manager had to go out before we could go to print), but now we're there (or nearly) on both things.
So next week, I'll be telling the printer to hit print on the D6 System 2e corebook!
The expansions will follow as quickly as they are done (we have to print less of them - so the corebook will take 2-3 times as long anyways).
The printer will have an update on the schedule once they start working and they'll inform us. We'll pass that on to you and that should also give us some shipping dates to work with as estimates (that we'll firm up as we get closer).
Setting Recap
Some folks have asked for a recap of the campaign settings, so here you go!
Bronze Titans
Bronze Titans is a fantasy setting for D6 System 2e, featuring tribes that are protected and live alongside massive kaiju that serve as protectors, gods, and agents of change for this world and its people!
You'll be able to channel the gifts, aspects, and powers of these kaiju as you battle monsters, demigods, other tribes, or explore this world around you.
This setting will meld the fantasy modules with other unlocked modules to help showcase how the multi-genre toolkit approach of D6 System 2e can be used to craft interesting and new settings for your games!
A Lonesome Ride...TO HELL!
Inspired by the Elric stories by Michael Moorcock, Stephen King's Dark Tower series, samurai stories, and a nice dusting of western+fantasy visual tropes, A Lonesome Ride to Hell is an acid-fantasy horror setting about cursed swords, damned warriors, duels to the death, and a sun-baked hellscape where the dead still walk, and the living can't seem to die fast enough.
Simone Tammetta has illustrated this one.
This campaign setting's elevator pitch is Have Demonblade, Will Travel. There's a new magic module that allows for possessed/cursed swords in addition to the campaign setting.
A Long Quiet Freeze
Set in a post-apocalyptic frozen wasteland, A Long Quiet Freeze draws inspiration from media like post-apocalyptic movies and books, ecological disaster films, survival horror, espionage books and movies, and Nordic noir film and fiction.
You take on the role of Agents: scouts, spies, and investigators, who work on the frozen frontiers outside the last enclaves of humanity, investigating crimes, working to protect your home, and conducting espionage operations against those who threaten you.
There's no new modules in this one, but it mixes modules from the core, horror, and post-apocalyptic module sets to show how to craft compilations of rules for D6 2e settings.
No Star Too Far
No Star Too Far is a graphic novel and comic-inspired campaign setting inspired by classic raygun science fiction comics of the 30-50s.
In rockets and flying saucers, you'll travel the solar system and beyond, taking the fight to tyrants and evil warlords, protecting those who cannot protect themselves, and generally be a big old hero in the face of cruelty, evil, and menace!
It contains new science fiction module add-ons and a small adventure!
As Always
Thank you for your patience. This remains the largest project GKG has ever done (in terms of scope, production, creative load, and work load), and it happened in a time that threw new curveballs at me as an RPG publisher and creative (in the world, personal life, and more). Your patience has allowed me to really do the best I can to bring you the best game and product I can.
I know it hasn't been easy and I share in the frustration of the delays, but we're so close to being able to get these books in your hands.
Truly, thank you. I can't express it enough. And I can't apologize enough for the delays, but I do hope you will agree that the overall wait is worth it.
I love D6. I grew up with it and on it as an RPGer and being able to be a small part of its legacy, which such a wonderful community has been a blessing and joy for me.
- Alan
