BinHero
The self-changing trash can.
Press the button. BinHero seals the full bag, ejects it, and loads a fresh one.
No motor. No battery. No app.
It’s the last trash can you’ll ever buy, and the only one that changes its own bags.
You change a kitchen bag about every four days. Call it 100 times a year.
Every time: the smell, the trash juice, the slipped liner, the held breath, finding the new roll, fighting the liner over the rim.
Touchless lids didn’t fix this. Sensor bins didn’t fix this.
We did.
You never tie a bag. You never reach in after a bag that slipped. You never find the roll, shake one open, or fight it over the rim. You never carry a dirty, dripping bag past your own face.
You just press the button and lift out a neat, sealed pod.
100 times a year, for the next 10 years.
How does it work?
Two actions happen in sequence when you press the button.
1. Seal
The flap assembly that holds the bag starts to close its mouth, so the bag closes itself around the waste. Nothing to tie, nothing to touch.
2. Eject
The side tub tilts out, which pulls the drawstring from one end and seals the bag tighter. The sealed pod is presented for easy removal.
3. Reload
Close the tub and a mechanism fires that drops a new bag from inside the lid.
4. Reline
The first pedal press after closing the tub opens the flaps, now holding the fresh bag, in a petal-like motion that lines the bag for you.
Herobags
BinHero doesn’t take a roll of bags. It takes a Herobag cartridge: 30 bags, pre-loaded, that fit into the lid in one motion.
Once loaded, the bags feed automatically each time you remove the last one.
Herobags are strong, 13-gallon, and can hold up to 50 lbs. Built to be pulled and sealed by the mechanism, which is why BinHero uses its own bags instead of whatever is on the shelf.
Zero Electronics
We could have added sensors and screens. It would have been easier to build and easier to sell.
We didn’t, because we know what happens next. The motor is the first thing to die. The sensor is the first thing to misread you. The app is the first thing to stop being supported. Three years in, you own a trash can that needs troubleshooting.
BinHero has no electronics at all. Nothing to charge, nothing to pair, no firmware, no batteries to replace, nothing that stops working.
It is a machine. You press it, it works, and it will still work in ten years for the same reason a stapler does.
Sensor bins open the lid. That’s it. The bag, the only part that was ever a chore, is still yours.
Most “automatic” bins automated the lid. We automated the bag, without a single motor.
Why it's different
1. You never touch the bags.
- You press a button.
- Release the drawstring.
- Pull the pod out with the ring.
- Close the tub.
2. The tub stays squeaky clean
“How do I clean the tub?” is a real concern. Let’s face it: scrubbing filth that has been building up under your bags for who knows how long is disgusting, and no one wants to do it.
With BinHero, you don’t have to worry about the tub getting dirty. The auto-lock and seal mechanism means you never handle the bag, so the chance of trash slipping through the gaps is almost zero. Nothing slips through, nothing rots under the bag, nothing to scrub later.
But if you want to clean it once in a blue moon, just hose the side tub down. It has a water outlet underneath, so you can easily wash it. And there are no electronics to worry about.
3. There is no smell
Not when changing bags. Not while it’s sitting there.
A bin smells for one reason: air gets out. BinHero’s lid seals flush against a continuous gasket, so the air inside stays inside.
Under the lid there’s a recess for a carbon pod. Activated carbon doesn’t mask odour; it traps it. Drop one in, replace it every few months, and the bin stays neutral even in a warm kitchen.
And because the bag is sealed before it leaves the bin, the worst moment, lifting a four-day-old bag past your own face, never happens.
BinHero is the only self-sealing bin with a full kitchen-bin capacity and stores four months of bags in the lid.
It has a footprint that goes where your current bin goes.

Siddharth — Co-founder & Engineering
I spent seven years building production lines for BMW, Audi and Tesla. That’s the step most hardware projects underestimate: going from one prototype that works to thousands that work exactly the same. It’s the step I know best.
In 2024 I decided I wasn’t keeping the trash chore forever. My rule for BinHero: no AI, no circuitry, no apps, no subscriptions. Just a machine that’s reliable, repairable and built to last, which is why the mechanism carries a 10-year guarantee.
The plan from here: molds this winter, a pilot run in March, BinHeros on their way to you in April 2027.
