Hive operates a technology platform that enables creators to manage crowdfunding campaigns, pledges, post-campaign fulfillment, and related operational processes.

2. Roles and Scope of Processing

Hive operates in different data protection roles depending on the context:

2.1 Hive as Data Controller

Hive acts as a Data Controller when we determine the purposes and means of processing personal information, including:

• Creator account information
• Creator business and tax information (e.g., EIN, VAT ID)
• Creator remittance information (bank wire details, PayPal email)
• Account registration data
• Support communications
• Platform security and fraud monitoring data
• Analytics and operational performance data

2.2 Hive as Data Processor (On Behalf of Creators)

Hive acts as a Data Processor when processing backer personal information on behalf of creators for the purpose of:

• Managing pledges
• Enabling fulfillment
• Providing support ticket functionality
• Facilitating campaign-related communications

In these cases:

• The creator is the Data Controller.
• Hive processes data only according to the creator’s instructions.
• A Data Processing Addendum governs this relationship.

3. Information We Collect

3.1 Information Collected from Backers

When you back a project, we may collect:

• Full name
• Email address
• Phone number
• Shipping address
• Pledge details and reward selections
• Communications with creators or Hive support
• Device and usage information

Hive does not collect or store backers’ full payment card details. Payment processing is handled by third-party payment providers such as Stripe or PayPal.

3.2 Information Collected from Creators

When you create and manage a project, we may collect:

• Personal name
• Company name
• Company address
• EIN (U.S.) or VAT ID (EU/other jurisdictions)
• Email address
• PayPal email address
• Bank wire information for remittances

Hive does not collect or store government-issued identity documents or date of birth. Identity verification and KYC procedures are conducted directly by payment processors.

3.3 Automatically Collected Information

We collect certain technical information automatically:

• IP address
• Browser type
• Device information
• Operating system
• Pages viewed
• Access timestamps
• Interaction events

This information is used for security, analytics, fraud prevention, and platform optimization.

4. Legal Bases for Processing (EEA/UK Users)

Where the GDPR applies, Hive processes personal data under the following lawful bases:

5. Creator-Provided Tracking Technologies

Important:

• These tools are controlled solely by the creator.
• Hive does not determine the purposes or means of such processing.
• Creator tracking is limited strictly to that creator’s project pages.
• Creators have no access to data outside their own project pages.
• Creators are independent Data Controllers for any data collected via their tracking technologies.

Creators are solely responsible for:

• Compliance with applicable privacy laws
• Providing proper disclosures
• Obtaining user consent where required

Hive is not responsible for the data practices of creators’ third-party tracking tools.

Hive uses personal information to:

• Provide and operate the platform
• Facilitate pledge management and fulfillment
• Process remittances to creators
• Comply with tax reporting obligations
• Detect and prevent fraud
• Provide customer support
• Improve platform performance
• Enforce our Terms of Use

Hive does not sell personal information.

7. International Data Transfers

Hive is based in the United States. Personal information may be transferred to and processed in the United States.

Where required under GDPR, Hive relies on:

8. Data Retention

Hive retains personal information only as long as necessary for the purposes described in this Policy, including:

• Creator financial and tax records: up to 7 years
• Transaction and remittance records: up to 7 years
• Support communications: up to 5 years
• Backer shipping information: retained until fulfillment + up to 24 months
• Analytics logs: typically 12–24 months
• Account information: retained while the account is active and thereafter as required by law

Hive implements industry-standard technical and organizational measures, including:

• TLS encryption in transit
• Role-based access controls
• Restricted access to financial data
• Monitoring for unauthorized access
• Subprocessor oversight

No system is completely secure; however, we take reasonable steps to protect personal information.

10. Cookies and Tracking Technologies

Hive uses cookies and similar technologies (such as pixels, tags, and local storage) to operate the Services, enhance user experience, analyze performance, and ensure platform security.

What Are Cookies?

Cookies are small text files placed on your device when you visit a website. They allow the website to recognize your device and store certain information about your preferences or past actions.

Types of Cookies We Use

• Strictly Necessary Cookies: Required for core platform functionality, security, authentication, and fraud prevention.
• Analytics and Marketing Cookies: Google, Facebook (Meta) and Klaviyo browser integrations can measure visits and purchases, attribute advertising results and support personalized marketing.
• Functionality Cookies: Used to remember preferences and improve user experience.

Creator-Provided Tracking

Creators may configure their own Google, Facebook (Meta) and Klaviyo integrations on their project pages. When Hive's cookie consent feature is enabled, the same browser preference controls both Hive's and creators' integrations. Creators remain responsible for their use of data in their own accounts.

Consent Management

When the cookie consent feature is enabled, these browser integrations are blocked until you choose "Accept all cookies". Choosing "Essential cookies only" keeps them blocked while login, security and checkout continue to work. Your preference is stored in the first-party hive_cookie_consent cookie for 180 days (approximately six months), separately for each site domain. An expired or invalid preference requires a new choice before these integrations can load.

We keep consent receipts containing a random consent identifier, your choice, the time and action, and the notice version and site scope. These receipts also retain the banner wording shown to you. They do not contain your name, email, IP address or browsing history. The preference cookie's expiry does not automatically delete these receipts.

This preference controls browser integrations only. It does not control server-side integrations, including Meta Conversions API and Klaviyo order, refund and support events. Other embedded services, security checks and payment processing are separate from this browser preference. When the consent feature is disabled, browser integrations load normally and its preference controls are unavailable.

Managing Cookies

When available, use Cookie settings to see your current preference and change it at any time, without logging in. Withdrawing acceptance stops these browser integrations after a page reload and removes their accessible first-party tracking cookies. It does not delete information already sent to providers or cookies that this site cannot access. You can also manage cookies in your browser and use the personal-data request procedures described below.
