SKU Consolidator

Overview

The SKU Consolidator is a powerful tool that allows you to simplify and organize your project’s SKU structure. Instead of exporting multiple separate SKUs for fulfillment, you can define consolidation rules that combine different SKUs into a single “Target SKU.” This makes your fulfillment exports cleaner, reduces the chance of errors, and ensures your manufacturing and shipping partners receive accurate data.

You will find the SKU Consolidator inside the "Fulfillment" tab of your project.

Why Use the SKU Consolidator?

During a campaign, it’s common to have add-ons, bundles, or reward tiers that include multiple SKUs. When preparing files for fulfillment, managing each SKU individually can become confusing or even lead to mistakes.

With the SKU Consolidator, you can:

  • Combine multiple source SKUs into a single target SKU.
  • Define quantities for each consolidation rule.
  • Export fulfillment files that are accurate, consistent, and easy for partners to handle.

This is especially useful when:

  • You sell bundles that need to be shipped as one packaged item.
  • You want to simplify production planning by merging SKUs.
  • You need a clean report for manufacturing, ensuring the right quantities are produced.

How It Works

When exporting fulfillment files, the system checks for any defined SK consolidation rules in your project. For each rule, it matches backers’ Source SKUs (the SKUs they selected) and replaces them with the Target SKU you defined.

Rules are always applied in order from top to bottom, and you can drag and drop rows to adjust their priority.

Here is a quick guide on how to set up new rules.

Step 1: Open the Rule Definition

Go to the SKU Consolidator tab and click Add New Rule. A form will appear where you can define the details.

Step 2: Select Source SKUs

Choose the SKUs you want to combine and enter the quantity for each. For example, if a reward contains CK_05 + CK_07 + JF_01, you can consolidate them into a single Target SKU.

Step 3: Define Target SKU & Quantity

Select the Target SKU that will replace the chosen Source SKUs. Then, define how many units of the Target SKU will be created per matched Source SKU combination.

Step 4: Save the Rule

Once your rule is complete, click Submit to save. You can drag and drop rules to adjust their order — this defines the sequence the system follows when exporting fulfillment files.

Best Practices

  • Plan your consolidation rules early, ideally before starting fulfillment.
  • Test your rules with small sample exports to make sure everything works as expected.
  • Keep your SKU names consistent and descriptive so they’re easy to identify when creating rules.

The SKU Consolidator makes your workflow smoother and ensures your manufacturing and fulfillment teams work with accurate, simplified data. By reducing complexity, you save time, minimize mistakes, and deliver a better experience to your backers.

Case Study: Bundling Multiple SKUs into One

Consider a creator who runs a campaign offering the following items:

  • Standard Pledge (SKU 1)
  • Game Mat (SKU 2)
  • Promo Pack Expansion (SKU 3)
  • KS Exclusive Promo Item (SKU 4)
Assigning each item its own SKU is the right approach during the campaign. This allows the creator to track how many units of each were sold, which is essential for placing accurate manufacturing orders.

However, if these SKUs are shipped separately, fulfillment hubs will treat them as four individual picks per backer—raising costs and complicating the packing process. After reviewing their data, the creator notices that most backers have purchased all four items. To streamline fulfillment, they decide to package them together in a single box with a new barcode and SKU (SKU 5).

This is where the SKU Consolidator comes in. Instead of manually cleaning up spreadsheets or merging SKUs in Excel (a process prone to errors), the creator simply defines a consolidation rule:

  • If a backer has one of each SKU 1, 2, 3, and 4 → replace them with SKU 5 when exporting fulfillment files.
The result:
  • Manufacturing data remains intact, since all original SKUs are preserved for reporting.
  • Fulfillment exports are simplified—each backer now has a single consolidated SKU instead of four separate ones.
  • The packing process is faster, easier, and less costly, with fewer chances for mistakes.
This example shows how the SKU Consolidator can save time, reduce fees, and simplify operations while still giving creators full visibility into their sales and production data.
