From Our Founder

In 2020, I had three sons in three different stages of life: a young adult, a high schooler, and a middle schooler. Like so many parents, I found myself arguing with my kids about wearing hoodies in the summertime. Eventually, I stopped arguing… and started getting curious.

I realized that their hoodies weren’t just about style. It was something deeper—rooted in self-soothing, identity, and care. That shift led me to pursue research, reflection, and design. That’s how Hood Sensory was born.

This generation has been through more than we realize—from pandemics to politics to fear of harm in spaces that should be safe. They’re using clothing as a tool to self-regulate, finding comfort and safety in the garments they wear. When I researched clothing that supported these needs, I didn't find anything that checked all the boxes of comfort, comprehensive functionality, and style. So I set out on a path to solve the problem.

I designed the first prototype to serve my sons and myself. The adaptive wear industry begins to age out past elementary school years. The reality is that sensory support is for life. In my case, the older I'm getting, the more layered my needs are. I'm excited now to share that same resource with folks like us who are invested in the lifelong journey of self-care, self-soothing, and mindfulness.

Hood Sensory is different because we center real neurodivergent needs, cultural style, and representation equally. It is shaped by my family’s lived experience, with the diverse realities of the beautifully-wired in mind.

Hood Sensory isn’t a trend or a gimmick.  It’s a companion, designed for calming comfort—a wearable toolkit for people who are already using their clothing as care. Our hoodie addresses sensory support head-on. It’s like wanting a hug, and letting your hoodie hug you back!
