Step into a world of limitless adventure with Grand Odyssey, the Silver Award-winning RPG that redefines fantasy gaming. Designed for unparalleled freedom and customization, this game lets you shape your destiny like never before.
Game Masters will also find a wealth of tips and tricks to help customize their games in great detail, keeping players on the edge of their seats.
Forget generic combat. Grand Odyssey introduces a dynamic system with versatile weapons, unique attacks, and strategic action economy. Armor isn’t just for show—it reduces damage realistically, bringing you closer to the action.
Each Species features rich lore and unique skills, including a variety of sub-species with their own skills and traits, adding to the extensive range of customization options.
Creating a character in Grand Odyssey is like no other game. No two characters are the same—unless you design them that way. Every choice, from your species and upbringing to weapons and classes, ensures your character feels truly one-of-a-kind.
Our skill-based system means that characters improve in the spells they cast and the special skills they use, but not in the spells and skills they do not use.
Want a challenging game that offers action economy in combat, character development based on ability scores and chosen special skills, significant strategic differences in weapons and armor, no alignment, fluid combat, and realism without gameplay distraction?
Would you like all that and more, without having to purchase any updated core rulebooks for the rest of your life?
Transcend the old ways.
Experience true freedom with Grand Odyssey!

AR and Dodge
To give more meaning to your Armor and Agility, we have split these stats so that your opponents must try to hit you first, and the damage they deal will be reduced by your armor rating.
Your Dodge score represents the number an attacker must meet or exceed to hit you.
Your Armor rating reduces most damage you take.
Armor Rating is divided into three categories:
- Natural armor is the inherent armor rating of your species, providing a flat damage reduction to all damage types.
- Worn armor, the armor that can be equipped on your character and gives additional damage reduction, but only on physical damage.
- Magical armor, the armor created with magic, and gives additional damage reduction, to magical effects and spells.

example:
A player character with an armor Rating of 6 natural armor + 6 worn armor, can negate any and all physical damage under 12 damage (think of Bludgeoning, Slashing, and Piercing damage). But a fire ball spell dealing 30 fire damage, will only be reduced by 6, dealing 24 fire damage to the character.
In addition, if the same character was attacked by a flaming sword, dealing 10 Slashing damage, and 7 Fire damage. The total damage is 17. The 6 damage is reduced by Natural Armor, and an additional 6 is reduced by Worn Armor, leaving a total of 5 damage, as the armor is not immune to any of the damage types. For weaknesses, the physical damage is always calculated first, magical and elemental damage last.
If the targeted creature is immune to a damage type, remove that type from the calculation.
Example with the same flaming sword but with a creature with fire imunity:
The sword deals 10 Slashing damage, but the 7 fire damage is ignored, dealing only 10 Slashing damage against the 12 Armor Rating, dealing no damage at all.
Damage from weaknesses is only doubled if the character is affected by the damage type.
Bringing the right weapon and armor to the fight is now key.
But be warned! Your armor reduces your dodge score.
in short,
- Step 1: Compare the attack roll to the Dodge score to determine if the attack hits.
- Step 2: If hit, apply Natural Armor to reduce one damage Type (first physical, then magical).
- Step 3: Apply Worn Armor to reduce physical damage and Magical Armor to reduce magical damage or effects.
- Step 4: Consider resistances, weaknesses, and immunities.

Weapon attacks
Unlike most TTRPGs, which let you pick a weapon and deal one damage type, we’ve created unique skills and attacks for each weapon, allowing you to thrust, swipe, parry, and sometimes even more.
This gives martial warriors more options and ways to handle various types of enemies.
Example:
Arming sword
Swords (Weapon group)
A sword is an edged, bladed weapon intended for manual cutting and thrusting attacks. Its blade is longer than that of a dagger or knife. A sword will have a hilt, but not all have a cross-guard or pommel. The blade of a sword can be straight or curved, depending on the category they are part of.
Shortswords (Sub group Swords)
These swords are more balanced in combat, for offensive and defensive tactics.
When parrying it with a shield that has no parry skill, you gain +1 D4 to your AR when your shield is raised.

Advantage System
The D4 Advantage System puts strategy in your hands. Role-play your character creatively, prepare for challenges, and stack the odds in your favor. This isn’t just rolling dice—it’s storytelling with consequences.
In most role-playing games, when a player's character enters combat or interacts with an NPC, the player might gain a form of advantage or disadvantage to a skill or check, and that's it.
In Grand Odyssey, when a player's character fights or role-plays, the player will ask questions to gain more advantages by role-playing their character. For example:
Player: Moving from the shadows, wearing a dark cloak, and matching my footsteps to those of my target, do I gain more advantages for my stealth skill check?
Game Master Option 1: Yes, you have prepared yourself well enough for this, so you get three advantages.
Game Master Option 2: Yes and no. Your allies are carrying a lit torch, and your cloak remains uncleaned after moving through the sewers, but your skills as an assassin are good enough to match the footsteps. So you get two disadvantages and one advantage, leaving you with only one disadvantage.
Preparing and communicating is essential for the game, and the Game Master will not make things up to give disadvantages unless a player explicitly requests an advantage roll.
If the party moved through the sewers before entering town, the Game Master can warn the players of their odor and appearance, making it clear that this could be used against them if nothing is done.
If the Game Master never mentioned this beforehand, they cannot use it later unless a player explicitly requests an advantage roll.
If a character has multiple advantages and disadvantages, they cancel each other out, with any remaining advantages or disadvantages applied to the roll. For instance, if a player has two advantages and one disadvantage, the net result would be one advantage.

Species and playable characters
There are many unique Species in the world of Niverra. Each playable Species will have fun skills, powers, talents, lore, and much more.
Classes
An adventurer must have a class that highlights their prowess and skills.
Each class will have sub-classes, and at higher levels, you can take sub-classes from different main classes.
THAT’S RIGHT! You can customize your character as if you multi-classed without losing levels in your main class. We call this “Altered Classing.” You may still multi-class if you choose to do so—the freedom and character creation are yours.
The Only Rulebook You’ll Ever Need!
The core rulebook is nearly completed and is in the final editing stage. We only need art to complete the package.
The book will feature extensive artwork, as demonstrated in the examples provided.
We will be offering these in print on demand through a company not yet determined, as a good fit has not been finalized yet.
The game is nearly complete, and we anticipate swift delivery upon reaching our funding goal.
The Core Rulebook is necessary for players and Game Masters alike.
The Game Master ONLY needs the Core Rulebook to run a game.
THIS IS THE ONLY BOOK YOU WILL NEED.
Additional books, such as the Player’s Handbook, Game Master’s Guide, and Monster Encyclopedia, will be created. These are supplementary to improve the game but are not required to play it in full.

Art work goals
All in all, we are nearly finished with everything and just waiting for the final editing stage on the rulebook.
We have everything lined up to print (almost), box, and ship as soon as the final editing is done and as long as we can hit our initial funding goal.
The rules are basically ready to go, with the exception of those final edits. We have limited artwork in the books.
Art brings the world of Grand Odyssey to life. By supporting our artwork funding tier, you’ll help fill the pages with stunning illustrations of monsters, characters, and more—elevating your gameplay experience.
Therefore, we are including an add-on for artwork, and if we reach our artwork goals, the books will feature a lot of artwork within the pages.
In addition, anyone who contributes to the artwork funding goal will have their names included in the credits of all the books.
All artwork in this project is created by the incredibly talented artist Melvin Groenedijk from the Netherlands, will bring Grand Odyssey to life. Although he is simply incredible, he cannot work for free.
He has informed us of an 8-week time frame to complete the artwork, so this will be factored into the delivery time if we meet our artwork goals.
For those wishing to contribute to the separate artwork funding goal, we have an additional tier available.
We believe this approach will help us meet our goal.
If we meet the artwork funding goal, we will include extensive illustrations in the books. Otherwise, the books will feature limited artwork, and we may launch an additional Kickstarter campaign to fund further illustrations.
Below are some pictures of the great artwork we already have.
Most pictures will be in black and white.
Print on demand (POD) is a great way to save on shipping costs for everyone! It’s also a much easier way to get books printed since there’s no minimum order required.
We love the idea of a boxed set with softcover rulebooks; however, that is not feasible right now.
Therefore, we are working with a few different companies, such as Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and DriveThruRPG, to determine the best steps forward. While we are leaning toward DriveThruRPG, the final decision is pending. However, print-on-demand (POD) services will be available.
When everything is ready to be printed after the project hits the funding goal, you will receive a code or coupon to redeem online at the printing company. You will enter the code and only pay for the shipping from them.
As for the PDFs, we will get those out as soon as possible after the project is successful.
This is about as low-risk as we can think of. The books are nearly complete, the PDFs will be easy to download, and the dice will be shipped out within weeks after the project is funded.
We have a date of February 2026 for final delivery, but we are hopeful to get things out before the winter holidays this year.
If we hit our goal for the artwork, that will cause the longest delay because we will have to wait for the artwork to be completed and loaded into the three rulebooks.
That said, we are excited about the future possibilities, and because we are working with very competent companies in the USA, we are confident we can overcome any challenges ahead.

The system was playtested this year at various home tables and local game shops, where it received positive feedback.!
*It was suprisingly easy to get into, very beginner friendly.
*I love the concept and idea's for the character background options like the birthdays, the birthsigns makes it so meaningfull
*Combat was faster then I expected, the new weapons made it much more fun for martial classes.
*low level actions mean so much more in and out of combat. Having movement as an action to choice from, gives you so much more to do in a turn.
Our goal with this system was not just to be different but to give the freedom to create and role-play for as many players as possible. By doing so, we believe we will enhance the enjoyment of playing the Grand Odyssey role-playing game, but we’ll let you be the judge.
Milestones
For every +1000 Euro. we will add one additional species or class, chosen by the Kickstarter and sacredfire games Discord community.
