The Preface
After 5+ years of tinkering with this game, I'm finally ready to roll the dice (see what I did there?) with a Kickstarter campaign. I'm excited and scared, but I really believe that this is a game that is easy to learn and will appeal to so many including board game enthusiasts and casual gamers alike. So, let's get to it...
The Game
In a world where dice have been taken for granted... wait... no, I don't need a corny intro like that. Simply put, Five by Five is a game about rolling and manipulating dice on a shared board to complete objectives in your hand. Completing objectives earns you points. It's that simple.
How Do You Play?
On each turn, a player will do these three things:
- Play an action card to either place a die or manipulate dice
- Play any completed objectives for points
- Restock their hand with cards
Once the board is full of dice, the game ends and you tally up the points. Easy peasy!*
*There are a few more nuances in the official rules, but you get the gist!
What Do You Get?
If you back the full game, inside the shiny (okay, it's a matte finish) square box, you'll get the following:
- 40 dice (10 of each color)
- 60 action cards (10 of each color plus 4 of each special action)
- 33 objective cards
- 3 special objective cards
- rules
Depending on the level, you'll receive a print-and-play edition that's optimized to be played with a single die.

What Are The Specs?
- 2-5 players (campaign goal unlocked for 1-player mode)
- approximately 30 minutes
- ages 8 and up
When Will You Get It?
That's a trickier question, but here's a rough outline of the post-campaign timeline:
- Campaign will last 45 days
- Pledge manager will open within 3 weeks of campaign end and will be open for at least 3 weeks
- Mass production will begin shortly after the pledge manager closes and will take anywhere from 11-14 weeks
- Shipping from the factory will be by ship, which also takes time (estimate will be updated when details are solidified)
- Once received locally, games will be shipped to backers (Note: While we will be eating some of the fulfillment costs, backers are responsible for paying shipping at then-current rates and any applicable local taxes.)
Why Back Five By Five?
Look, I understand there are TONS of other games to back here. The fact that you're even looking at my game means the world to me. I've been designing games for over 10 years at this point and this is my first Kickstarter (life always seems to get in the way, right?).
A successful campaign opens the door for me to explore and create more games to share with the world!
Seriously, thank you for checking out this project.

Accolades and Reviews
Five by Five is 'Community Verified' on The Game Crafter, a popular board game prototyping manufacturer and seller, receiving a score of 114 of 120 over 40 votes.
"Played this with 7, 10, and 12-year olds, along with a few adults. Took very little time to explain, and being able to play one quick game or multiple games with cumulative scoring is a big plus with different kids and social groups. Quite pleased we picked this up, and it'll be a regular in our game rotation." - Gene Z. in WI
Games Are Headed to Fulfillment Centers
2024-09-27 20:39:16Hello again, everyone!
It's time for another update. Thanks to those of you who reached out asking for an update.
Games Are Headed to Fulfillment Centers
Last we spoke, most games had been picked up from Panda and were being prepped for consolidation with other games to be shipped around the world.
This is where things get a little hazy for me, unfortunately. Working with a third party to do freight can be a bit confusing and it's sometimes hard to get exact dates and information.
Here's what I know based on my conversations with various third parties...
United States and Canada
From what I'm understanding from Hive, the U.S. shipment was loaded on August 30th. I'm not positive if that's the date that it left port or the date things were loaded onto the boat, though. From there, I was told it would take 25 working days to get to Bridge, in Georgia. Matt at Bridge clarified that a bit for me and let me know that it usually takes 30-45 days for arrival. So, if we're doing the math, in the next couple of weeks, it should arrive at Bridge.
From there, they'll take it and ship it out to backers in those territories. That should not take long since it's not a huge shipment.
I am pretty confident that we'll make our November 2024 delivery date!
EU and Surrounding Areas
If you're in the EU, the U.K., or most countries in Europe, your fulfillment will be handled by Green Logistics. A separate boat is heading there from China. Again, I'm using Hive consolidated freight to offset costs.
According to Hive Fulfillment, the EU container was loaded before China was hit by Typhoon Bebinca, but the boat wasn't able to get out before the storm. That was on September 18th. Since then, I've learned that it is in transit. That message was relayed on September 23rd. According to Hive, it usually takes 30-35 working days to arrive at Green Logistics in Poland. That means probably closer to 35-50 days, if I had to guess.
Once it arrives at Green, it should be pretty quick to get it out the door, since the number is much smaller than what's going out in the U.S. and Canada.
I am hopeful that we'll make our November 2024 delivery date, but it's definitely out of my hands at this point. Hope for smooth seas!
Australia, New Zealand, and Asia
If you're on of our few backers in these areas, your games went through VFI Asia and will be handled by Aetherworks. Emma at VFI let me know that the games have an estimated arrival in Australia on October 15th.
They'll be shipped out from there and I suspect that our Australian backers will get their games by our November 2024 delivery date. I am not 100% sure about our backers in New Zealand, China, and Japan. Once the games arrive at Aetherworks, I'm sure I'll have a better idea of delivery estimates.
Wrap Up
So, I'm learning a lot about the process and I realize that for my next project, I'll need to devote a little more time to the freight process. It has been the hardest part of all of this so far.
Thank you all for hanging in there with me as I work through it.
I'm still very hopeful that you'll have your games by the estimated delivery date. If anything changes or I feel like that date might slip, I'll let you know!
Until next time... virtual high fives from...
