The Preface
After 5+ years of tinkering with this game, I'm finally ready to roll the dice (see what I did there?) with a Kickstarter campaign. I'm excited and scared, but I really believe that this is a game that is easy to learn and will appeal to so many including board game enthusiasts and casual gamers alike. So, let's get to it...
The Game
In a world where dice have been taken for granted... wait... no, I don't need a corny intro like that. Simply put, Five by Five is a game about rolling and manipulating dice on a shared board to complete objectives in your hand. Completing objectives earns you points. It's that simple.
How Do You Play?
On each turn, a player will do these three things:
- Play an action card to either place a die or manipulate dice
- Play any completed objectives for points
- Restock their hand with cards
Once the board is full of dice, the game ends and you tally up the points. Easy peasy!*
*There are a few more nuances in the official rules, but you get the gist!
What Do You Get?
If you back the full game, inside the shiny (okay, it's a matte finish) square box, you'll get the following:
- 40 dice (10 of each color)
- 60 action cards (10 of each color plus 4 of each special action)
- 33 objective cards
- 3 special objective cards
- rules
Depending on the level, you'll receive a print-and-play edition that's optimized to be played with a single die.

What Are The Specs?
- 2-5 players (campaign goal unlocked for 1-player mode)
- approximately 30 minutes
- ages 8 and up
When Will You Get It?
That's a trickier question, but here's a rough outline of the post-campaign timeline:
- Campaign will last 45 days
- Pledge manager will open within 3 weeks of campaign end and will be open for at least 3 weeks
- Mass production will begin shortly after the pledge manager closes and will take anywhere from 11-14 weeks
- Shipping from the factory will be by ship, which also takes time (estimate will be updated when details are solidified)
- Once received locally, games will be shipped to backers (Note: While we will be eating some of the fulfillment costs, backers are responsible for paying shipping at then-current rates and any applicable local taxes.)
Why Back Five By Five?
Look, I understand there are TONS of other games to back here. The fact that you're even looking at my game means the world to me. I've been designing games for over 10 years at this point and this is my first Kickstarter (life always seems to get in the way, right?).
A successful campaign opens the door for me to explore and create more games to share with the world!
Seriously, thank you for checking out this project.

Accolades and Reviews
Five by Five is 'Community Verified' on The Game Crafter, a popular board game prototyping manufacturer and seller, receiving a score of 114 of 120 over 40 votes.
"Played this with 7, 10, and 12-year olds, along with a few adults. Took very little time to explain, and being able to play one quick game or multiple games with cumulative scoring is a big plus with different kids and social groups. Quite pleased we picked this up, and it'll be a regular in our game rotation." - Gene Z. in WI
Mass Production Has Begun, Creating a Shipping Plan, and Last Call for Pledge Manager
2024-06-14 00:56:49Hello there backers!
We're about a week or two away from summer here in the northern hemisphere and the weather has been heating up. We've been spending more time outside, but I'm always working on Five By Five stuff in between soaking up the sun's rays!
This will be just a quick update as there's not a ton of new information.
Mass Production Has Begun
In my last update, you saw the pre-production copy of Five By Five and I outlined the changes that we're making to the game. I think those are going to be a nice improvement over what is already fantastic.
Those changes were approved in late May and we started mass production. Take a look at the schedule below. We're still on target for hitting the goal of November 2024, assuming everything goes well with freight and fulfillment.
I feel pretty good about the latter, but from what I understand, freight can sometimes throw curve balls at you. So much of this is new to me and the freight part is the part that makes me the most nervous. I have made some good connections, so I'm sure it will be just fine, but I'll definitely breathe a sigh of relief when the games land at their fulfillment centers. 🙂
Panda says 10-12 weeks for the mass production to be completed and then another week or two to wrap everything up then the games will be ready for pickup.
The next checkpoint, though, is the MPC (or mass production copy). That will be sent when production is completed and they have assembled the game. This will be representative of what you will receive. When I get that, I'll post pictures and another update!
Creating a Shipping Plan
As mentioned above, once the games are manufactured, they'll be freighted to the fulfillment centers. Right now, I'm in the process of working with those centers and finalizing the plans for receiving the games.
There's a form that I have to fill out for Panda to let them know what I'm going to do and who will be picking up the games.
Right now, the game plan is as follows:
- USA and Canada: Your games will likely get to North America via the ocean. They'll take a boat ride and eventually make their way to Bridge in Atlanta.
- EU and UK: As there are fewer of you, your games will probably be flying through the air (on a plane of course) and end up at Green Logistics, who will send them out.
- AU, NZ, and Others: VFI Asia will likely be picking up the games from Panda and sending them your way.
If any of that changes, I'll let you know.
Last Call for Pledge Manager (and Extra Games)
I've been following up with some folks who haven't filled out the pledge manager yet and we're getting super close to having everyone accounted for (at least those who are getting a physical copy). If you haven't done so yet, please head over there right away and finalize the info! Look for an email from Hive. If you have any questions, please reach out.
This is also the last chance to purchase extra games before fulfillment. As I'm creating the shipping plan and working with those fulfillment centers, I will need to cut off late pledges very soon. Head over to Hive to update your pledge, if you're interested!
Wrap Up
That's it for now. As always, I so appreciate all of your support!
Until next time... virtual high fives from...
