The Story

While Lovecraftian horrors and Nordic folk tales are well-known, the dark myths of Greece remain hidden in the shadows, waiting to be uncovered. 

Set in 19th-century Greece, just years after independence, it is a land caught between the old and the new where superstition and faith are still stronger than reason, and where the line between myth and reality blurs dangerously.
The story is based on the myth of the Vrykolakas(vampire), an undead creature from Balkan tradition that feeds on fear, faith, and family bonds.
This same legend went on to inspire Gothic classics like Polidori’s The Vampyr, Stoker’s Dracula, and many others...

• Devout: Priests, monks/nuns, or pilgrims who guide others with unshakable resolve.
• Mystic: Spiritualists and mediums, equally versed in sleight of hand and folk sorcery.
• Scholar: Seekers of knowledge and forbidden lore.
• Rogue: Outcasts, wanderers, true survivors. Resourceful and street-wise.
• Warrior: Masters of arms and physical prowess.

Unique new backgrounds tie directly into these classes, grounding you in the life of the time and giving each character a place in the world before the horror begins.

Custom Folk Mechanics

We built new mechanics that don’t just add crunch, they make you feel the weight of superstition, ritual, and fear.

• Ritual-based Magic: Spells are performed as folk rituals with real-life components, relics, and charms. 
• The Evil Eye: A living curse based on tradition. Envy, malice, or simple bad luck can afflict you, twisting every roll until a cleansing ritual breaks it.
• Stains: A push-your-luck mechanic. Reroll a die, but each time you do, you gain Stain. The higher it climbs, the closer you are to attracting the Evil Eye. Survival always comes at a cost.
• Cleansing: Rites, offerings, or hard penance that shed Stains and quiet the Evil Eye.
• Fear & Terror: Face horrors and roll to stay in control. Panic in the moment, and suffer lasting effects like paranoia or melancholy. Every choice matters!
• Signature Items: Every character carries a small charm. Once per day, you can call on it for strength. The items within the protective kit bundle are the actual premade signature items within the game.
• Rituals, Charms and Curses: Folk workings, not spells. Simple acts with specific prices that bend chance, bind spirits, or doom the faithless.
• Wealth & Debt: Pay with favors as often as cash. Debt invites collectors and curses.
• Combat Training: Alternate rules for Armor Class, your AC depends on your training.
• New mechanics for Resting, Blessings, and more...

Made In Greece

This is a true passion project for us. We grew up with these stories, and now we’re excited to bring them to your table.
That’s why everything will be produced in Greece:

• The books and maps, and printed handouts will be printed by Vogiatzoglou Printing House in Trikala.
• The mini prayer ropes (komboskini) in the Kit will be handwoven by nuns at a monastery on the island of Crete.
• The wooden engraved charms and Stain tokens will be custom-made by Cucos Crafts, a local woodcrafter- 3D designer from the island of Crete. 
• The Constantinato pendants, sage bundles, glass vials, and burlap bags will all be handcrafted by Saita Concept Store, a local creator from the island of Skiathos.
  
  We love supporting local businesses and will continue to do everything we can to help them grow.

Every Bundle is carefully and lovingly hand-assembled by our team.

We are Story Mode Productions, a small indie team from Athens, Greece.
Since our teenage years, we’ve been fascinated by folk horror stories told by our grandparents in the villages. Those eerie tales shaped our imagination and never left us.
