I want to keep upgrading the components in the base game! But instead of stretch goals or votes, for this campaign we'll be taking the ancient world approach: throwing ourselves at the mercy of a moody and powerful deity!

How can we know the will of the God of Board Game Upgrades??

Luckily for you, we have been acolytes of the God of Board Game Upgrades for some time, and we have some insight that other mortals may not. The God of Board Game Upgrades will mostly be observing the comments section on this Kickstarter and the game's forums on BGG.

The God of Board Game Upgrades likes:

  • Groveling and fawning to their greatness
  • Sacrifices and offerings in their name
  • Shrines, temples, or other structures built to honor them
  • Backers that show kindness and support for one another
  • Dogs and long walks on the beach

The God of Board Game Upgrades does not like:

  • Speaking to the creators of this game as though THEY were deities (we are but humble mortal vessels)
  • Requests or demands to the God of Board Game Upgrades that are not accompanied by a sufficient amount of groveling and fawning
  • Too much time passing since the last time someone groveled, fawned, or offered something 
  • Skepticism of their existence, ungratefulness toward them, or other such insolence
  • Backers that are rude and/or combative with each other

Almighty's art and graphics are all drawn by me, Malachi Ray Rempen, using my meaty human hands rather than generating it with artificial intelligence. I do use an iPad Pro, an Apple Pencil and Procreate; so no, I am not pawing at the walls of a cave with blood like a REAL artist surely would, but I'm not employing any AI image generators, either.

Almighty will not have a traditional retail release. Support this campaign to secure your copy!

I'm not a big company. I'm just me, and I use Kickstarter quite literally: to start my crazy ideas up with your kicks. This is only possible with crowdfunding, and I love it! But it means I don't currently have any deals or plans to put Almighty into traditional retail distribution. It's possible that will change if this campaign goes really well. I don't blame you if you want to wait and see what happens, I just can't promise that this game will be available later (my previous game, Power Vacuum, is notoriously difficult to find at the moment).

More importantly, by backing this project you're using crowdfunding the way it's meant to be used. Help indie creators like us make cool stuff!

I've got a background in filmmaking, but my "just for fun" web comic Itchy Feet kinda took off, as did my "side project" board game Roll Camera!, and now I'm a full-time cartoonist and board game maker. My favorite ancient myth is the one where Odin drinks magic poetry mead and then "expels" it into his enemy's face.

Almighty started life as a troops-on-the-map area control game, then died and was reborn as a medium-heavy tableau builder euro (if you can believe that), then died again (it wasn't thematic enough) and was reborn again as the lane battler you see here today. During all this development I desperately needed help, and my prayers were answered by:

I’ve always been a fan of Keen Bean Studio, and so I leapt at the chance to playtest an early version of Almighty (back then, it was called WHY GODS WHY).  I had enough thoughts that Mal invited me back!  From there, I weaseled my way into a development position, and just never left Mal alone, ultimately shifting to a co-designer for the third rebuild of Almighty.   My favorite ancient mythology is the Celestial Bureaucracy, I love the idea that the afterlife is riddled with as much red tape as the present one.

Designing a game with someone who lives 4,000 miles and 7 time zones away has been an interesting experience – I have many sleep-deprived notes from 2:00 am meetings that say things like “but what about Blue?” and “this is Almighty” – not to worry, though, we totally solved for Blue, and this is, indeed (checks notes) Almighty!
